We are what we eat. If we do not breathe in oxygen, we will die immediately. If we do not eat or drink food with sufficient water we will die within a few days. If we do not eat foods with sufficient proteins, vitamins, and minerals, we will die within a few months. If we eat foods that break down our ability to handle nutrients, we will die before our time. Being mindful of food as medicine can give us a chance of living the long healthy life we want.
